The Role of Water in Disease Prevention

Health and healing must start with Water.  Your body is about 70% water and 30% solid matter. Your brain is 85% water, your blood is 83% water, your muscles are 75% water and your bone is 22% water. So for optimum health and vitality, this is the foundation.

1.5 - 2 litres is considered a guideline for water daily. If you find it difficult to drink plain water, try natural herbal teas. Coffee, tea, and alcoholic drinks etc are not a substitute for good quality water. Many of these are diuretic in their effect.  So enjoy them, but in moderation.  Highly processed fizzy drinks and the like should definitely be avoided.

Dr F. Batmanghelidj is a leading researcher on the health giving benefits of water, and “Your Body's Many Cries for Water” should be considered essential reading on this subject.

It is now increasingly appreciated that dehydration can be a serious problem and is unknowingly affecting lots of people. We need copious supplies of good quality water to stay healthy. In addition to aiding with digestion and the absorption of food, water regulates blood circulation, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, removes toxins and other wastes and regulates body temperature. In addition water cushions joints and protects organs from damage. Dehydration can be the cause of many ailments.

Dr f Batmanghelidj maintains that asthma, allergies, diabetes, arthritis, angina, stomach upsets, chronic intestinal complaints and certain other of today’s degenerative diseases are the body’s many cries for water, which are dramatically improved with a consistent long term intake of good quality water.

Dr Robert Young in his book the pH Miracle for weight loss says ‘I firmly believe the single most important think you can do to not only be healthy but also to find and stay at your ideal weight is to drink good water and plenty of it’.

Many scientists now believe there are many other pain signals of thirst before a dry mouth which indicate that the body is becoming dehydrated. Other leading researchers have stated that pain is a signal of acidity and to overcome the problem it is necessary to balance the body chemistry, neutralising acidic wastes and flushing them out of the body.

How to Improve the Quality of Your Water

The contaminants found in water can essentially be placed in three different categories - microbiological, chemical & aesthetic. Some are present naturally, more are added in order to cleanse and protect such as chlorine.  The best way to improve the quality of your water is to install a whole house filter and thus remove all contaminants from drinking, bathing and household use.  Whilst an intial expense, it is a good investment long term. Another option is to install a filter at sink level for drinking water. This is highly recommended, and can be done very cost effectively with a few different options.   Jug filters remove very little contamination and are not recommended.
