Best Foods for B Vitamins - Naturally!

The B vitamins are best done naturally!

There are 8 of them in total. They're water soluble, and your body needs to replenish them regularly, especially in times of stress.  Certain health conditions, medications, coffee and alchohol can deplete levels.

If you're tired and facing the world feels challenging, typically the B vitamins can help.

They play many vital roles.  ALL B vitamins convert food into fuel to create energy in the body. All help with mood and sleep patterns. But each one plays a special role too, some of which are detailed below.

  • B1 (thiamine) - protects the nervous system
  • B2 (riboflavin) - protects the skin, eyes and nervous system, fights free radicals
  • B3 (niacin) - protects the skin and nervous system, promotes good cholesterol
  • B5 (pantothenic acid) - promotes healthy hormones, protects the skin
  • B6 (Pyridoxine) - helps mood and sleep, controls homocysteine
  • B7 (biotin) - helps blood sugar, protects hair skin and nails
  • B12 (cobalamin) - maintains healthy nerve cells, helps produce DNA and RNA
  • B9 (folate / folic acid) - also controls homocysteine, very important for mood and mind, and protecting babies during pregnancy

Best Foods for B Vitamins

Foods vary in their amounts of B vitamins, but we are not going to cover them individual foods for each B here.  Apart from the case of folate / folic acid in pregnancy, and pernicious anaemia caused by a B12 deficiency, they should be enjoyed as a family of vitamins.

So here are our nutritional favourites and you want to make sure you are getting plenty of these every week.

Avocados, kale, asparagus, broccoli, spinach, celery, cabbage, legumes, nuts, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, brussels sprouts, chickpeas, mushrooms, oats and cauliflower.

B12 is mainly obtainable from animal products, so meat, fish, dairy and eggs.  If you want to look at how to resolve the B12 issue on a vegan diet, see Chlorella - the Perfect Vegan supplement.

And finally a lovely food for B vitamins, that may suprise some of you on this list is molasses.  Historically one of the reasons it was always recommended is for the purpose of calming the system.  the reason it works is primarily the B vitamins and magnesium. The glyceamic load is suprisingly low.

Best B Supplement

So for vegans it's Chlorella, although this amazing emerald green plant is for everyone for all the vitamins and minerals not just the B complex.

But the very best for B is the Zell Oxygen, this really can put some ZING in your step.  It's made by a German company, so not our brand, but it is the best B we have seen, and that's why we stock it.
