Yoga and Deep Breathing Effective for Depression

We LOVE yoga,  it's suitable for everyone, and has so many benefits.

So we were pleased to see this excellent study published February 2017.

Participants were of a wide age range (18 - 64) with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).  They were either on no medication, or had been using a consistent amount of anti-depressants for less than 3 months.   They did 90 minute classes and practised at home for three months.  One group did two classes per week, and the other three.  Compliance levels were good.

The classes were in the Iyengar yoga style alongside practising coherent breathing.  This is a popular form of Hatha Yoga that is quite precise.

When followed up at the three month point, symptoms were shown to have declined significantly in both groups, but with the three class group having better results.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if recommending Yoga was standard practise at the GP surgery?  Those of us passionate about natural health know how effective it is, but studies like this need to be brought to the attention of doctors.  Amd if you. or anyone you know is struggling with depression, please try Yoga, it may change your life.
